At some stage our fur-babies are going to experience some form of tummy trouble.
Like us, our fur-babies are also going to experience the discomfort and irritability that goes along with an upset tummy.
When our fur-babies are feeling “off”, we want to immediately help and support them in any way that we can.
So, how can we help and support our fur-baby with tummy trouble?
Nux vomica!
Nux vomica is a well known homeopathic remedy and is a must have for any animal emergency kit. In fact, it is probably one of the most used remedies in my household!
When Should I Use Nux Vomica?
The key to this remedy is “touchy”. You may notice that your fur-baby is a little bit competitive or a bit aggressive with other animals. Nux vomica is also a very good remedy for when our fur-babies have had quite a lot of medications administered over a period of time. It is a wonderful support remedy that can help assist and detox from overuse of medications.
Nux vomica can also address vomiting that is followed by retching or colic. I have given this to horses that are suffering from colic with great results. More often than not the horse is very irritable and will kick at their tummy due to distress and pain. Nux vomica can really help support them through this.
We often see diarrhoea or constipation when this remedy is needed, in some instances you may also see your fur-baby straining to pass a bowel motion. More often than not these symptoms have been brought about by over-eating, over-indulgence or ingestion of fatty or rich foods.
This remedy can also support those fur-babies whom have eaten a toxic substance. This remedy can be given immediately and also given on the way to the vet.
The key notes for this remedy are:
Irritable
Sensitivity
Nausea
Vomiting
Over-use of medications
Constipation
Digestive upsets
Diarrhoea
Remember:
Homeopathy is not like conventional medications. We don’t dose based on our fur-baby’s weight. My rule of thumb is that 1 dose = x1 pill or 2-3 drops. All we need is one pill or one drop to be absorbed into the mucus membrane.
Always observe your fur-baby after you have given a remedy, watch for any signs of improvement. If after 15-30 minutes there has been no change, re-dose. If you are still not seeing any changes, this is an indication that this is not the right remedy for your fur-baby.
Nux vomica is such a handy remedy to have on hand, be prepared when tummy troubles strike!
